While industry discussions emphasize emerging technologies and lower global warming potential options, a significant opportunity exists: Australia possesses a substantial reserve of refrigerant in operational refrigeration and air conditioning systems across supermarkets, cold storage, commercial applications, and transport.
“R404A has a global warming potential close to 4000 times that of carbon dioxide,” highlighting that recovered refrigerant represents meaningful emissions reductions.
